Blitzing in rapid time control

I play a lot of rapid chess, and I keep running into players who pretty much blitz out all of their moves. For example, I'll be on move 20, and my opponent's clock has gone up to 16:25 or something. Why would someone move so fast in a 15/10 time control? Why not just play blitz if you want to play that fast?

Saving an extra minute and a half at the beginning of a 15 minute game can be very beneficial for later time pressure or a critical move.

It can also be psychologically intimidating.
