castling is only illegal if the king passes through check. If you are aiming at the rook, or next to the rook on the long side, it is still legal to castle.

I'm fairly new to chess.com, so I don't know if this is a common problem. I play on my iPad, using the application. During live chess games, if I'm checking or aiming in-between a king and rook it still let's my opponent castle :( it really takes the fun out of it for me, because I'll never know who the true victor would be.
