The option to select "white/black" has been removed and is now based on your previous game and your opponent's previous game. If you play the same opponent a second time, the side will switch unless the previous game was aborted.

That is noooooooooooooooooooo god at all . I myself cant play with black . And sure there is something wrong cause all my previes games were by white , but now all the times my pieces black so I aborte That is from 10 May 2010. So I think you have to reset the random option again otherwise I wont olay chess Live any more

Thats a great idea to stop those who only want to play white all the time...
That's no good cause there are many people want to play with back as well as white so leave it to players desire
I am supporting those who want to random again not obliged to to play with .
You have played hundreds of games with white only, now you should have to play an equal number with black.... its the only fair way. 
I don't like that at all. Sometimes I want to play many games in a row as black to try a new opening, sometimes I want to play many games in a row as white to try a new opening. Sometimes I just want to play chess and don't care which colour I get.
This should only be changed if there were so many people creating games as the white pieces that it was hard for people to find games. Was that the case?
I think that when I choose specific pieces the other side does not obliged to mplay witk the other pieces in spite of his desire but he often goes on .So releast it according to the players wish

if the site were free, you / they might have a point...but as it is, you got nothin'.
I believe if you check the statistics furnished by this site, white and black win at the same rate.
I play white, quite a bit, and have never waited more than one minute for a challenger to respond.
That means there are as many people playing black as white, and winning at the same rate.
Taking the fun out of a game site seems to be a contradiction in terms.
So strange to read some comments from players to oblige me or give instructions to change my way in playing as a kind of mocking.But I find it a chance to pause or even stop Chess.com to finish my Ph D.

I think that this is fair and a good move by chess.com.
It introduces more randomness (if thats a word) and there is a slight advantage in playing as white but there is no harm in playing as black. (Remember that the win percentage is similar) I admit that I prefer to play as white, but if a game comes up as I play black, it is no major disappointment. It is still a game of chess, you still play with a strategy (or not) and playing black helps me improve my strategy.
