why when playing computer chess does the machine break my line of thought, by offering a choice of new game, to swap sides or options. Then wipe the game i' m playing. This is spoiling my enjoyment, and preventing me improving my game

Check your settings? I have played the computer on Chess.com with both a PC and Mac and have never had a game interrupted. I know with the settings you can select "coaching" which evaluates moves after made. You can also manually select a button to change sides. But you make these decisions, they are not automatic.
Or are you on an app. I am not familiar with apps. But, check you game settings before starting. Good luck.
