Draw by Insufficient Material

For some reason, on an online chess game, I had a rook and king, while my opponent only had a king. For some reason the game was suddenly called a draw by insufficient material. Why was this?

You run out of time, and the opponent could not be awarded a win, having only a king. Hence the draw.

K+R vs. K is a well known checkmate in the endgame for the K+R.  You state that, "...For some reason the game was suddenly called a draw by insufficient material..."   My question to you is, who determined this game to be draw?

The rules of chess determined a draw.

Assuming Lunarknight76 ran out of time, Lunarknight76 would normally have lost. In this case his opponent has insufficient material to checkmate him.

As well as bare king, on this site, automatic draw on time-out if opponent has only KB, KN or KNN.
