EDIT: this is how the game was going on, i have not altered the pieces, so, why is this a draw? just because my opponent has no moves possible but is safe while staying still?

Its called stalemate. If your opponent cannot move and is not in check, the game is a draw.

Stalemate is a part of the game, you can not "play without stalemate" . But, if you are carefull, you can avoid it in most situations.
So i was playing with a friend in live chess and i made him check mate, and the game says it is a draw???????
can anyone explain this to me?????
