hit "offer draw" to claim a 3-fold repetition or a 50 move rule draw when it becomes valid. 4min is more than enough time to do that.
Drawn rook ending not drawn at chess.com
Standard issue of "flagging the opponent".
It is within the rules, so you'd have to go for 3 fold repetition or 50 moves draw.
Not really... As i told you , in an OTB tournament, the arbiter can rule it a draw without having to play out 50 moves...
Well, I assume you are referring to Quickplay finish from FIDE laws of chess:
|
10.2 |
If the player, having the move, has less than two minutes left on his clock, he may claim a draw before his flag falls. He shall summon the arbiter and may stop the clocks. (See Article 6.12.b) |
|
|
a. |
If the arbiter agrees the opponent is making no effort to win the game by normal means, or that it is not possible to win by normal means, then he shall declare the game drawn. Otherwise he shall postpone his decision or reject the claim. |
|
But, you played a 10 minute game. This is considered a blitz game:
|
B.1 |
A ‘blitz’ game’ is one where all the moves must be made in a fixed time of less than 15 minutes for each player; or the allotted time + 60 times any increment is less than 15 minutes. |
And, in blitz games, rule 10.2. doesn't apply if there is no adequate supervision(as here for example), so everything was perfectly fine. I know that this may not be the answer you wanted to hear, but that's how it is. If you have some references saying otherwise, please post it here so we could discuss it.
|
B.2 |
Where there is adequate supervision of play, (one arbiter for one game) the Competition Rules and Appendix A.2 shall apply. |
|
B.3 |
Where supervision is inadequate the following shall apply:
|
P.S. we have similar threads here every week
Of course, chess.com could employ some kind of supervision which would simulate an arbiter, but I'm not sure if this can be automated.
Easy solution is to play with increments, 1 second is enough.
We have threads on that every week too.

of course.

Play shall be governed by the Rapidplay Laws as in Appendix A except where they are overridden by the following Laws of Blitz. Article 10.2 and Appendix A.4.c do not apply. Thanks for your detailed reply... Yes I was referring to the rule you mentioned but was not aware that it is not employed for blitz...though in OTB blitz I would think that this rule may be easier to enforce rather than the 50 move rule as there would be no record of the moves...
Yes, I guess playing with a 1 second increment is the best solution.
K +R vs K+ R, played this with about 4 mins left on the clock and lost as opponent had more time... around 5 mins... I think if the opponent is not trying to win(also cant try to win) but trying to flag you, the arbiter can declare this a draw in a proper tournament.. I have faced this in OTB as well and it was declared draw....this needs to be addressed at chess.com.... It is just pathetic.
