This is the message you should have read before they redid live chess that everyone was sent on Saturday from Chess.com:
Subject: CHESS.COM UPDATE: The New Live Chess
If you haven't seen the new Live Chess, here it is:
If you have seen it, then you probably have some questions. You might have some reasons to complain. But I hope you will understand that this was a necessary step to a better live chess in the future. So please, instead of being quick to complain, try to understand. Thanks!
- Why does this look so different? I want the old version back!
The old live chess was built on faulty technology. We had to kill it. There were too many problems with disconnects, stability, clocks, etc. We are starting simple and then building from here. One step back, many many steps forward coming. Give it a little patience - it will grow on you. And within a few weeks we will have a new Live Chess 3 which will be amazing!
- What is new in thist new version?
We have totally reworked the live chess server. It is built for stability, accurate clocks, and is much much better on the backend. Of course, you can't see that part, so it may be frustrating for you. But trust me - it's worth it.
- What happened to game ratings and stats?
As we messaged many times, live chess was being totally reset. We had to do this for the new system. Your stats will re-populate as you play. Your ratings were rounded down to the nearest 100 and your RD was set higher. Just play 5-10 games and your rating will settle in where it should be (the first few games will see bigger rating swings).
- What happened to private chat?
We removed it temporarily. It will return when the new Live Chess 3 comes out.
- What happened to players and games tabs?
We haven't had these in live chess for a long time. But, they will come back soon!
- How can I observe a game?
Click on the name of someone who is playing and then observe!
- How do I chat in a game?
Use the tabs. One is GAME - for your game chat. One is CHALLENGES, for finding a game. One is FRIENDS, for your friends. One is CHAT, for public chat.
We hope that you will give Live Chess Simple some time. We're working hard to make it all better and better!
