Games and Gentlemanship

Dear All,

I am new in this site and I found there are players here who abuse the other players with their country, religion and casts.

Chess is a game of Gentlemanship.

But when I started playing with nova0002, from United States, and he was check mate only in 9 moves, he started abusing. In the rematch he abused my country, my religion and my mother.

I appeal to all the members from India to protest against it and appeal to the authority to take necessary steps against him.

I feel it is quite difficult to play in this forum. I will put this same topic to Facebook.

Our conversation and as a proof I have also inserted the screenshots below :

 [NOTE FROM MODERATOR:

We're sorry you've been subject to this racist and obnoxious behaviour by this user. We have immediately closed his/her account.

This content you've posted as proof has been removed because of the obviously foul language it contained. If this type of thing ever happens again (we certainly hope not), we'd appreciate if you send a report about this, instead of making the abusive material public. You can do that by clicking the "Help & Support" link below every page on Chess.com.

Thank you.]

First off, I agree with you that this is no good. It happens to danes as well. And probably americans, englishmen, turks and... well... It has nothing to do with caste, religion, weight or height, it has everything to do with being a sore loser.

Second, I wanna ask you; where/how does registering stuff like this on an emotional level help you? In chess games, in you everyday life?

Thirdly: You may want to consider the button in the chat that says "disable chat" when this happens again, 'cause it probably will.
Alternatively, here's a fun trick:  Pay no mind to the tooling and the abuse (simply don't look at the chat window) and win the game on time while the other guy is typing his self absorbed head off. ;)

Oh, and welcome :)

Our country is like our mother, we may live anywhere in the world but we love our country by any means. So it is like that, we are emotional about our country.

We can not consider anything abusing about our country.

Its a game of gentlemanship, not abusing.

Thanks for your reply.

I again appeal to the authority and the Indian Players to stand and protest it.

Regards to all

I am pleased at chess.com's prompt action. This was a very serious example, and chess.com is a better place without such twisted characters.

I believe Vulpesvictor has correctly identified the basis of the problem, well put.

Airbanghosh, abusers come from all walks of life and live everywhere.  Please don't let such a petty person annoy you and keep you from your enjoyment of the game as well as this site.  There are still plenty of good people out there in this big bad world we live in.  If you would like to play a few games with a gentleman who loves this game, loves to make friends through this game and have fun, polite chat please send me a challenge.  I'm not a strong player though, I just share the love of the game with good people like you.  No tight time constraints though please, I often do not move on the weekends.

thanks Fred,

yes I do believe that, Winning and Looding part of the life and life is a game, but i wanted it to  be notified to the authority and the others, so that nova0002 does not get any further oppertunity to abuse anybody else.

I am also not a very good player and playing chess after may be 20-22 years just for the enjoyment and to create good friends.

Thanks for the offer, I add you in my friend list.

Regards

I agree with vulpesvictor. Best thing to do when this happens is, rather than disable chat, just ignore it and look and the board, and especially in 1/0 and 2/0 your opponent is wasting so much time abusing you that you will inevitably win on the clock.

I've had a certain amount of racial abuse (usually relating to sexually intimite activities involving sheep), but I just regard it as free rating points. Obviously I don't then start a new game with the person, just walk off after the first game.

Out of interest, has anyone ever experience racist/sexist/homophobic/religious etc abuse in a real life game?

I had a funny one today. I got called a (quoted exactly as written) "scum suckuing pushet". Any ideas what this means...!

Maybe we should have a competition to see who can draw the stupidest sounding insult from their opponent in live chess Smile

I had a guy call me homoboy. I didn't notice until after the game ended, when I believe he related my demonstratedly superior ability to the assertion that I am a homoboy.

Then, of course, there was the gay oedipal virgins guy in the forums... fun times.

Another good one today. I had a female opponent whose first language was not English. She was clearly not happy that I had beaten her, and thought my victory somewhat fortunate.

She asked "So, you like getting lucky, do you?"

Avatar of ivandh

How did you choose to reply...?

Avatar of madhacker

I thought of many possible replies but decided just to keep my mouth shut in the end...

"now take your points and go away and die"

Not sure what it is about me which attracts these...

I am rather jealous madhacker, I have not had so much as one f u in my live chess career.

I don't think anyone makes fun of Greenland...I would just say I'm from Greenland. That should put an end to any future abuse.Wink

I mean, really, if you are capable of existing in Greenland for extended periods of time, you are someone that not even the worst internet troll wants to mess around with.

Greenland has the most people featured on badassoftheweek.com per capita.

They opponents would probably insult the snow, or wish that the glaciers melt.
