What is the point of having a higher rating when you are at the same skill level? Most likely the higher-rated players will just beat you. Maybe a better approach to this is to play real people and gradually improve and eventually verse higher-rated opposition when you are ready to do so, rather than unneccessarily accelerating the process. Your rating is meant to reflect your level of play but having a higher rating means nothing if your skill level is lower. Though chess.com ratings are already inflated, rating isn't as important as skill.
inflate your rating

I can't believe how few people seem to have the common sense to see this.
Versing computers is fun but doesn't teach you as much as versing real people. Would you rather be good at chess or have the illusion of being good at chess?
I heard someone say recently. sense is not common. in this case, our senses are differnt. n e ways. in my opinion.playing people who are better always makes me better. playing people who I dust just makes me confident in whatever state I'm at. this worked for me in basketball, track and field, college classes, etc. 's working for me in chess. I play blitz because higher ratings are more likely to play me cause they like blitz games (and don't mind a short game with someone of lower caliber).
n e ways. u guys are lame. I will keep playing the computer as well (just like I play lower ranked players also). playing, period, will make me better. I have fun learning and raising my rating (and keeping it there) is an incentive for me to continue enjoying live chess. inflate your ratings!
don't be so uptight. geez
If playing people who are better makes you better why don't you verse the computer on a higher difficulty?
Playing better people makes you better, so logically you must select an opponent who is neither a people nor better.
You made logic cry :)
People and computers play chess way differently, and it is possible to be good agianst a computer, but bad against people and vice versa.
Look at playing against a strong human player like getting into a fight with a black belt that is a normal sized human. They are not super strong, but have great technique and are a clever fighter.
Then...
Look at playing against a strong computer player like getting into a fight with a body builder. They are extrememly strong, but lack technique.
my experience otb or on the computer is that chess is like water, always finds a level. so if any one of us sits down with magnus, game after game after game...we'll start to win more frequently(maybe not very often). likewise, if we play on our level...
ha! the one with the 2300 rating claims rating is not important...thats like the tall guy saying there's nothing wrong with being short
It's fun to win, but losing really sucks. Anybody disagree, help me balance out losing and winning--If you never win, pretty soon you stop playing.
I don't think much can be learned unless you are playing computers or people who are only slightly above or even with your ability.
I agree, but I was talking of swimming away from your cruise ship. The lesson learned from venturing so far from your depth would be to convince you that maybe swimming is not your sport!

yes. sacrifice now for later. play computer...then beat you smart guys
So much focus on rating... why not just play chess for the enjoyment of the game? Rating is quite irrelevant you know.
I'm saying that that is part of 'the enjoyment of the game'. you never played a video game to improve your high score? ok, whatever. I'm done convincing. don't deny that you enjoy seeing your rating go up. all you 'ratings don't matter' guys are right, but lame if you deny u get enjoyment out of an (however arbitrary) improvement in your rating. peace
there are actual reasons to do this (people of higher rating will be more likely to play you)....
n e ways...'s simple
PLAY THE COMPUTER...
I'm in the 1300's and the easy computer is pretty poor. sometimes it seems to play well and other times it makes silly piece sacrifices for what it seems no reason. so keep rematching the computer and up your rating. soon. I'll be at 1500 and on my way to playing all you tough guys, lol
