What on earth is a pre move?
A smaller problem than this
That looks cool.

woodshover, you could look this up yourself. You could do a site search here, or simply go to google and search for "chess premove".
Or, you could continue to pepper the thread with question marks.
Somebody could just answer. This thread could use some seasoning, anyway.
maybe have the pre-moves in quick live-chess and have the option (for both players) to have pre-moves or not in the long time control in live chess ?
no one like the idea ?

I wouldn't mind having one of those now.
I don't really see a problem with it. If the other player knows what they're going to do, then why not let them do it?

Because up until very recently, there was absolutely no penalty for making a move. If I'm playing a 1 min bullet, then I'm playing a TIMED game - not a game with infinite moves. Even at 0.1 secs per move - you can still make 20 moves in the last 2 secs of the game, and none of them considered moves - thats bullshit.
For those who want to remove premoves for longer games only - thats rubbish. You do not need premoves to play Bullet. I don't use premoves and my rating is hovering around 1800 - all of it playing 1 0 Bullet, and all of it playing others who are using premoves.
The bit I seriously DON'T GET is why do you want to stop people from playing without them ? Why can't we have an option on the New Challenge window that says - I DONT WANT TO PLAY WITH PREMOVES.
Why can't people have a choice in that ? I can set a min rating, max rating, play unrated, play white only, play black only... why can't I play in a game without premoves ???
I'm not stopping all the guys above who don't have a problem with it. If you like premoves, fine play with premoves... but at the moment, I DON'T like them. I loathe them. Others loathe them. And yet, we're forced to play people who use them - we can't opt out.
Even give me an option to see which players have them enabled so I can abort and block them... fine with that too.

PWANG!
Your wish is granted!
If you are playing on chess.com, your opponents have premove enabled.
Go forth and conquer.
Which opponents ??? Not all oponents have premoves enabled. Not all oponents want premoves enabled. Show me which is which when seeking a game, and I'll no longer have a problem...
If you're simply taking the piss, go piss somewhere else.

indeed. certainly pays be a follower on this site. Otherwise a reasoned debate might break out.

I usually only play turn based chess. However, if I played games in which a) my opponents often used premoves, and b) I didn't like such a thing, I think I would create a group with a title such as "we hate premoves" or something similar.
And then the people in the group could friend each other or otherwise track each other so they would know who else is online at the time.
If the interest in such a group grew to a certain point, it is possible that some identifying feature would be added to modify that functionality.
Just a thought.
And a fine thought that is - but if you go looking, you'll find that such groups and threads already exist, and are already filled with people trying to shut the discussion down or spam the living hell out of it.
That - and the fact that I'm not looking to run for president. I just want to play Bullet with a like minded individual - without the cheat codes.
I've been playing Bullet chess for well over 10 years - and just got back into it. By the looks premoves have only been around for 2 or 3 years... so we obviously lived just fine without them prior to that.
What I don't understand is how they simply got turned on without the ability to opt out.
Actually - I just googled premoves and found this at ICC:
For those who feel adamantly that premove is unfair and who don't want to play against anyone who has premove, it is possible now to put !premove in your formula, e.g. "set formula !premove" and "set useformula 1" before doing "seek". That will block all challenges except from users of older versions of Blitzin, users of a couple other clients that chess server knows don't have a premove feature, and users of Blitzin 2.5 who have premove disabled.
Appears they've already dealt with it.
Encore for the op, or at least update the system to give the pre move opt out in bullet / blitz.
>:)
I think it should be ok in blitz games, but not in somethig like tournement time control or 30-5 time control.
PS. Why is it that online sites tend to have bonus time while official chess uses time delay? The differense is that bonus time lets you keep the extratime you don't spend.
Hi,
I would like to voice my support for banning premoves. I encourage chess.com to make the necessary technical adjustments. If there are people that like to use premoves there should be a section of the website devoted to games which allow premoves. It could be called premove-chess. And then those of us that like to play real chess in which moves actually take time off the clock can avoid this chess-like game entirely.
Whose idea where premoves anyway?
Please respond to this thread to voice your support for banning premoves.
Thanks!
I think premoves have there place ! it's the internet lag that is the root of the problem, get rid of premoves - get rid of the problem
keep chess real.

With lag, and the caclulation that involves (how much was really delay, how much lag, etc), it is just easier to do incremental time.

What about these?
Keep spamming this thread... it only proves my point that there are no real arguments against giving people the option of playing without them.
eg. Showing players who have premoves turned on, or being able to hide challenges from players who are using them.
None. Zero. Nada. No reason at all - except a stubborn refusal to understand why so many people JUST DON'T LIKE THEM.
Nice filibusting tho...
