Is this really repetition?

Black to move after:

43.Rd4
45.Rd4 and
47.Kf2

is the same position.

So repetition only applies to one side not overall board position?

No, the whole position has to be repeated three times, with the same side on the move each time. If castling was possible in one of the positions, it has to be possible in all, and if en passant was possible in one of the positions, that one won't count for repetition since it wouldn't be available in the latter ones.

It seems like when the computer wants a draw, one repetition is enough for it to call a draw, but if I want a draw, no amount of repetitions will make it declare a draw.

43. Rd4
45. Rd4
47. Kf2

Those are the moves causing the repetition. They all end in the same position.

So in this case we did not have the same whole position 3 times... I messed up move 45. with RB1 it was supposed to be RB2 however only his king was moving on the same square.

This I see, its a painful reality but I cannot argue with the rules even if I don't agree because the spirit of the rule was to avoid perpetual games and while this may have easily ended in a stalemate or by time, it was going to end. Thanks for taking the time to find it and explain,

What does that have to do with anything? A mindless check, and you couldn't even play it. It's a R vs R 3 vs 2 all on the same side. It's a dead draw in any case, meanwhile you make a forum topic asking for assistance on how to count to 3.

Hi all, I confess that the rules of repetition have always confused me a bit. In this game, I don't really see the repetition as I do not see the exact same position 3 times but the computer claimed it immediately after my last Rook move. Can someone help me understand better. Thanks

You always think it's only two, but when you check it's three.

I was taught that if you make the same move from the same position three times your opponent can claim a draw, which I think is preferable. Even so your opponent must claim it and I bet he didn't.

Hey thanks for your message troll. Its a 3 minute game so really its not necessarily a dead draw. I made of forum post about a legitimate question I had that is more complicated than counting to 3 since they were not consecutive moves, however why you would waste your time with your pathetic attack, is beyond me.
Sorry not all of us are blessed with your superior intellect, however at least I am not so miserable that the only way to find happiness is trolling forums and attacking people who politely ask a question. Did you get beat up a lot in school? Take a break from chess and focus on some social skills, I promise you'll be happier.
