Hello,

Does chess.com consider the type of device you are using when matchmaking? Am i at a severe disadvantage playing bullet on my phone with my fingers and getting matched with people using a mouse/keyboard?

In that statement, you've asked 2 questions;

  • Does chess.com take into account your device when matchmaking?
  • Am I at a disadvantage when paired against people with a mouse + keyboard?

Well, the answers are no, and sort of. Question 1 is straight forward, but question 2, not so much. PC chess has pros; long chains of premoves, precision with clicking, and serious gameplay in general. Mobile chess also has pros; move confirmation, fast game review but lighter diving, and casual gaming in general. PC chess is superior to mobile chess because on a touchscreen, fat-fingered misclicks can happen and touchscreen lag can lose the game, and annotation (arrows) on a live game are inaccessible. So, get a laptop or PC for serious play, but stay on mobile for casual on the go playing.
