Won't be using this nonsense anymore....complete waste of time when games randomly abort. How are you supposed to focus if it's liable to be all for nothing. Laughable!! 🤣
First time it happened to me: https://www.chess.com/game/live/41111454777 I was playing in the app and the whole gameboard went blank. The app was unresponsive and I had to close it and start it again. By then, the game was in my archive as lost because I abandoned it. Curious, I started a second game and had no trouble finishing the second one. I don't know whether it was an app glitch or something else.
Seems to me if you could just abandon a game every time something goes wrong in your game, that would be pretty lame.

I was losing. Badly. I threw my queen away, because it's 4:00 am, and my brain isn't working.
I'm almost falling asleep waiting for my opponent to move... but he's within his rights. I open another browser tab. I'm surfing these forums. The connection's fine. I'll hear a noise to alert me when he finally moves, right?
Wrong. I hear a noise to inform me that I'VE abandoned the game.
This is UTTERLY unfair. I don't deserve to lose points because some badly written software thinks I'm a quitter... I DESERVE TO LOSE POINTS BECAUSE I'M RUBBISH AT CHESS!
@LitterPicker it happened because you opened another browser tab which means you are not at the main tab where you were playing at chess.com so it disconnected to the server and the game got abandoned..
Hope i helped you ..
@Kartavyakings I thought that might be the case - the strange thing is, this was not the first time I had looked at other tabs while waiting for an opponent to move, but it is the first time I was punished for not staring at the board in anticip...
...ation.
Just happened again! In this game https://www.chess.com/game/live/76950121743 I was only on move 11, with 2:49 remaining in a 3-minute game. The app simply went blank. I waited a few seconds: nothing. I closed the app and re-opened it: the game was already over, saying I'd abandoned. Please, Chess.com, fix this (or at least don't count these as "abandoned"). Surely the app can tell it just locked up on its own instead of me intentionally abandoning a game.
Unfortunately, it happened again, here: https://www.chess.com/game/live/80755412415
(Any word from staff on whether the server can tell the difference between an actual abandonment and an app crash? If not, I'll quit playing on the app because I don't want to be penalized. It's just that I have access to the app far more than I do a computer.)
TOTAL BS! My opponent was 8 minutes in, I’m asking if he’s still there to move and get NO response. I could feel it happening again but I went to play a song on my phone and immediately return cuz this keeps happening, and it was of course ABANDONED… within 5 seconds!!! How are they still letting this happen?
The same thing happened to me 4 times, except I won those games because my opponents "abandoned" the games. I do not know if their Internet was bad, or if the chess.com servers lagged or something like that, but it was a sending issue.
