nobody is live on chess960

This is apparently still an issue - we're in the midst of the Freestyle chess tournament in Germany, so I would assume a lot of people would want to give it a try - but I can't find anyone...

The Chess 960 variant sounds interesting, and I might give it a try for fun sometime. But I'm working hard just to master two or three opening lines and improve my middle game in classical chess. I don't really need dozens of other variants thrown at me at this point.

For me too. I'm thinking in chess.com it needs more internet 🛜 .v2rayNG can run it but it will be dangerous

Part of the reason nobody is live playing 960 seems to be because it's absolutely buried in the variants section, and it's not easy to find even when you're searching for it. In my opinion, Chess.com should be elevating Chess960 above all other variants and creating a standard pool, e.g. 10+0 960.

I rarely play chess960 😅

It is on the main server. Just change the type from standard.

You don't need to go to the variants server.
