One of the guys I'm playing with has blocked chat by default. Now i see a notification on chat but can't see the message. Is he trying to chat but not aware that chat is blocked? How do I convey something to him?

have you tried messaging him?

I don't play blitz or bullet but if we have get paired just say you want chat before move one so no warning about fair play if I abort you before move one.

"""Please allow us to elect not to play with others who block chat."""

Absolutely...  How can they continue to sell this as a social site...  I will not willingly play those who block chat.  So why not make that an option?  Also, why are players you block still amoung those players who you are paired against...

So why play at a social site?  Just buy Houdini

(edit note; changed sit to site)

I block the chat because I've encountered toxic players in the past.

To block or not to block that is the question. Should one play Chess or should one chat or should one to both of these things at the same time ? So many questions in life  lol.

Players who block chat are the scum of the earth! But they're not as scummy as people who never say "gg." Those people are the worst! Except for people who do say "gg." I really hate those people! They're so arrogant!

lol u basically summarized half of the forums threads on this site

Still very true to this day. Why, the forums have not changed at all since 2013!

I chose to block all chatting (except for friends) due to idiot remarks. Most people in here are good and good sports, but a few are crass and bullies really. I joined chess.com to enjoy playing chess not to chat and be sociable. I truly enjoy knowing that I’m playing a “game” with people from every corner of the globe. Once upon a time, in a game long ago before i blocked the chatting.... after i made another blunder (of which i am so prone to do) the player Asked “why are American players always so bad?” I admit it bothered me, not because of the nationality aspect but because my opponent was just being a jerk. I play chess for many reasons one of which is to escape the rude, obnoxious, petty, and divisiveness of small minded fools no matter how good at pushing their virtual wood pieces they may be. Of course i lost the game and was asked for a rematch which i obliged and by some cosmic miracle won in about a dozen moves and then declined another rematch request. I don’t need or want negativity in my life, we all have too much of that already. There’s my $0.02 worth.

Btw would a person who objects to being blocked ( ie denying the " Freedom To Block " ) perhaps be called a Blockhead  Rofl.

" Freedom To Block " is the same as denying free speech...

The site sells its self as social....

If folk don't like to talk, they ought to show the  curtesy to say it, even by a tacit response.  And if there is an option to block, there in all fairness ought to be the option to block those who do block.

No blocking does not deny freedom of Speech. It means you are free to say anything just not to me

OK, then why in turn will you say I must put the like of you, anti-social, in my playing pool?  Since there is no option for me not to play you based on the fact you block chat, this denies freedom to me where it offers freedom to you, how is that fair, especially on a social site?

you can play me you will just be talking to yourself

No I do want play you, simply because you block chat...  I do not want to see you in a play pairing against me for that alone... Your argument has no legs, you opt towards no choice and are supporting facist ideology while trying to remain cutesy...

Yet  it is a LIE, what you said, to chat the other player must leave the option open or the text bar ignores / blocks text...

So what is it to you for them to put forth that option, to block those who block chat, you will be happier to only play quiet non social folk like yourself and we jabber jockeys can play like minded folk and not suffer YOUR BLOCKAGE...
