Problem match making

There was a time when we could play against very high-rated players. Without even forcing matchmaking settings, I could find 30-sec games against 1500+ players while my rating was only 800-900. These games were extremely fun. Despite the additional challenge, I could hold my own and sometimes even win after playing against them frequently.

Those days seem gone now, as I haven't seen a 1300+ player in nearly a year. What's the point of having a setting option to play against anyone above your level if it only partially works? The highest rating difference between my opponents and me now hovers around 200-300, far from the +1000 we could easily get before with just seconds of searching. Even the +400 option yields nothing.

I've asked this question before on a French forum, but people just say it's normal and that I need to increase my rating to find stronger opponents. Well no, that's not normal - something has definitely changed. Now we're forced to play monotonous, boring games against +100-200 rated players constantly. Why was the old matchmaking system modified? It's become so boring.

Bu default, if there are players that are closer in rating with a compatible seek at the time you are searching, it will pair you with them. There have been some changes where many of the games are played but as far as I'm aware the overall pairing algorithm hasn't actually changed.
