About the pawn, just because there is no other piece in front of it doesn't always mean you're allowed to move it forward. For example, the pawn could be pinned to your king. Just make sure you check everything before moving. Hope I helped :D
Question about the Live Chess Game
SophieWang thanks a lot for ur response. appreciate it :) Actually the pawn was just an example, it happens a lot of times. Like you know when it's your turn and u want to move any piece the way it's supposed to move ike if I wanted to move my rook forward a spot, when there's no piece in front of it it just doesn't let me do it and it doesn't let me move a lot of pieces when it is possible to move them. You know what I mean? Sorry if I'm not explaining it very well. What did you mean btw when u said the pawn could be pinned to my king? Thanks again.:)
Ok, so for example, in this diagram (sorry if the position is weird, I just made it up randomly), the white pawn on d2 is pinned to the white king by the black bishop on b4. Therefore the white pawn cannot move forward, as it would be check. It doesn't always have to be a pawn. Any piece that is pinned to the king cannot move away.
And also, maybe another reason is that in live chess, you kinda have to put ur piece exactly on the square. Like say you put it in the middle of two squares by accident, during a blitz game or something, the 'program' will put ur piece back in the orinigal spot. This is good sometimes, as u won't accidently put it in the wrong square, and blunder. Again, I'm not completely sure that this is the reason, it could all just be a small glitch. Sorry if this wasn't really helpful :)
Another possible reason might be that your King is already in check. You need to deal with that first before moving another piece somewhere else on the board.
Hey guys thanks a ton for ur responses. SophieWang the position of the chessboard is great, and thanks a whole lot for explaining. Actually I'm a new chess player, so I wasn't really sure why the pieces couldn't move, thanks to u guys I know now it was because they were pinned to the king and if they were to be moved, I guess the king would be captured and the game only finishes when the king is in checkmate, right? When the king has no escape?
Thanks again SophieWang and blueemu for ur response. :) It really helped a lot, u guys r the best!
Hi all Chess players,
I had a question about the live chess game. Often times I am playing against an opponent, and when it comes to my turn, sometimes, occasionally, I am not able to move a piece to a place where that piece is allowed to go but the game doesnt let me do it. For example, it's my turn and I decide to move my pawn forward, when there's no other piece in front of it. I am allowed to move my pawn forward if there's no other piece forward but sometimes the game does NOT let me do that. Any help wud be greatly appreciated. Thank u.:)
