Slow server issues
are you still experiencing this?
Yes. I think it was over a week ago, that I and others were having a problem ( on another thread I started), and then something was done and there was an immediate improvement to the speed we had before the upgrade. This lasted for a few days, and now it seems as if it has reverted back to the slow mode. It is not always that way, but for me, more often than not.
can you do a firebug report, or tracert, or ping? if you don't know what those are, no worries. i'm not having any issues, and we're not seeing a more general outcry of slowness...
what browser are you using? any new plugins or addons? i strongly recommend google chrome.
Wouldn't chess.com be able to as all other web sites to let the user chose what bowser they want to use and have the same experience with them.
When I started to play et chess.com you told us to use Firefox which I already was using and glad to use and still glad to use. I can't understand that a site we are paying for, can make that at least 4 main bowser's one is having the same experience.
It seems to me that it can't be true that one has to download Crome to be able to use this site probably. (Does Google pay you? :) )

i'm not saying that our site is made for one browser. our site works "fine" in all browsers. we have tons of IE, FF, Chrome, Safari, and Opera users.
but let me ask you this: if you're in a race and you're riding a bike (internet explorer) and someone says "hey, here's a free car" (chrome), you should probably switch :) it isn't the road's fault, it's the vehicle. it isn't my fault that internet explorer is bad and chrome is good, those are just facts. once we've done all that we can do (which includes a server farm of 25 servers, every optimization under the sun, and massive caching and acceleration from akamai), it's up to you to pick the best vehicle for using the site. if you want IE, that's fine. but some people are oblivious to the fact that their browser is bad. some people are still on internet explorer 6. that's like riding a tricycle down on the freeway. if that person is having a poor experience, and i offer them a free car ("hey, download chrome (or firefox)"), and they choose not to, what more can i say?
"Wouldn't chess.com be able to as all other web sites to let the user chose what bowser they want to use and have the same experience with them." <- that's like saying "let the guy on the bike, and the guy on the moped, and the guy in the car, and the guy in the airplane... let them have the same long-distance travel experience" :)
interesting, though dated, read: http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,687738/Big-browser-comparison-test-Internet-Explorer-vs-Firefox-Opera-Safari-and-Chrome-Update-Firefox-35-Final/Practice/

I am using Chrome, and I just added Ad blocker on it yesterday, but it was acting slow prior to that. I don't have any other issues with other sites and forums and I am on quite a few.
Eric the example you use ain't fair,Crome might be a little bit faster I agree, but what people are complaining about is when using another bowser it takes sometime up to 15sec. to load a page.So to me there most be something wrong with chess.com loading pages with other bowser's than Crome and have nothing to do with bike, moped, car or air plane.

if there is 15 second load time, sure. that is why i asked a bunch of questions to determine. but any time anyone complains about speed issues i recommend they also use the best browser as an added tip, not a solution.
Well whatever they did about 45 minutes ago, brought the speed back to normal, which is the same thing that happened about a week and a half ago. Now it is running normally and the pages load instantly........
It still takes very long to load pages on chesscom where on all other sites on the net it loads very quickly,so maybe Firefox is allergic to chess.com.
Spoke to soon yesterday. It was OK for awhile, and this morning I made moves in 2 games, one took 15 seconds, one was over 30 seconds and the move only went though when I hit the refresh button on Chrome. The next game, I waited over 1 minute and finally hit refresh before the screen would reload with the chessboard and move I just entered.
captainbob do you always log in at the same times? is it slow all day long? or just at a certain time of the day?

Well I was on this morning around ( AM EST), and now it is 3PM EST, and it is slower now than it was this morning.
Here is another very disconcerting problem that has happened to me twice this afternoon. I make a move, ( have to hit the refresh button to actually return to the next game most of the time) and when the next game to play pops up, I notice that some of my pieces or opponents pieces are Missing from the board. One of the games I am currently playing, I was down a bishop this morning, and when I went to play a move this afternoon, I was even on bishops, in other words one of my opponents bishops had "disappeared"... I suspected something was screwy, so I went to the Details and it showed, in fact, that I was down a bishop. I hit the refresh, and now my opponents bishop suddenly reappeared.... ( I was actually hoping it wouldn't, but thats a story for another day
)
This morning, when one of my games loaded, for me to play my move, about 1/2 my remaining pieces were not there. It looked like my opponent had wiped out half my pieces.. Again, hitting the refresh, and when the screen refreshed, my pieces were back.
I could see where someone could make an error in a game, thinking that the situation that he was looking at was his real position, when in fact, he could have a totally different position when the board was refreshed. Something definitely is wrong with this situation as I am sure you will agree..
sorry to hear that captainbob. you are certainly having a unique experience, and i want to help you out.
do you know how to do a ping and tracert?
instructions: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsT3U9MQw64
you should ping and tracert:
"chess.com"
"chesscomfiles.com"
also, i strongly suggest you reset your router, clear your cache, and disable any addons. that will help us make sure there is nothing else in the way. but again, we're not getting widespread complaints on this.

I did a Tracert on Chess.com and it looked OK. Tracert on Chesscomfiles.com times out. I tried pinging Chesscomfiles.com and I get this

What makes me think that this problem is not on my end, is that both times when you did something to your server, the problem no longer presented itself temporarily.
ok, now try to ping and tracert "images.chesscomfiles.com"

Is anyone else having problems again with turn page chess, entering a move, or having the page freeze or take forever to load after a move. This happened a week or two ago, they did something that fixed it, and it was OK for a few days and now it is back to acting like I am on a slow dialup connection rather than a DSL line. Sometimes I even have to hit the reload on my browser to return to complete the move.. Very annoying.....
