I use XP, and have no problem with Chess Live's sounds for both I.E. (8) and Firefox (current edition). 

However, at times when I visit the sound will not be present.  So, I close out my browser window and then return, and the sound's working again.

Now, have you checked your settings and made sure that sound is still "enabled"?  That's located in 'Control Panel' / Live Chess / Settings / Sound [enable sounds].
