Take me back to Chicago.
Er........
About your problem, your opponent similarly sees "disconnection" and the game is aborted. I don't know how hard it would be to program a "retrieval" system, though.......

REALLY!!? Dang, that sucks....... I stick with online chess mostly.
Coulda sworn somethin' like that happened to me and it wasn't counted as a loss....... oh well.
I've only tried live once and couldn't start a game to save my life... gave up and kept with online from then on out.

Hello,
I've had this problem a few times now too.
It's really frustrating. I hope it's possible to find a sollution.
I have played on ICC. There they are taking me back to the game when I sit on a bad line in my cottage. I may have 10 disconnections or more, but after a few seconds I am back. I loss som time, but the game are going OK.
I just made this suggestion to chess.com staff myself. A minute or two reconnection time before the game is allowed to end would make bearing the disconnection problem so much easier.
And registering disconnections as resignations is just wrong - from my record you can see that I've "resigned" several games that I was either winning in, or that were roughly equal.
ok, i have a question. i use firefox 3 on a fast computer and yet still i've been disconnected from live chess many times. it's extremely frustrating, especially when you're winning! anyway, after you disconnect, it asks you if you want to reconnect ... but then it takes you back to the start screen!
instead, why can't it take you back to your game, in progress? even if i lost the time, (i.e. the clock kept running) i'd be much happier to get back to my game. that seems like it wouldn't be too tough to program, no?
