Maybe chess.com should shut down for a while until more of the bugs are out of the system.  can't get all morning.   it's a great idea for a site, but as a Bay Area PR/marketing comm.  advisor, might be better to wait to save your reputation.

theriverman

chess.com will always have a good reputation

erik

unfortunately there is just no way for us to simulate what it is like to have thousands of people on the server. we tried load tests with 5,000 bots, but it isn't the same...

as for our reputation... yeah, it's hard. but we need to remember that all things are evolving, and it's hard to get it right. fail fast, iterate quickly. in a few weeks nobody will remember this and we'll have a great live chess server. gmail had it's problems. twitter has their problems. vista had it's problems. we all do. :)

remember to breath and take a break , pressure is good to a point, stress makes you get grey hair or makes you bald lolCool.

BigAlex

when I try to connect, get the "loading" message forever....

javiero

Erik and his hopeless staff should all resign after this mess .. why let 4000 members onto a site that hasn't been tested properly ..  I would say the egos are too big which shows through with the moderators

Same!!!

turn

The creators of every successful site is responsible for maintaining its "customers". And therfore, every creator can choose to.......

Upgrade the website for the good of everyone but risk the loss of customers

or

Let the website go on as it is.

Looks like chess.com went the second way. That means chess.com took the risk of losing its customers.

Do you think they won the battle?

That, depends on your perspective.

P.S.Actually, I'm just bored and relieving nostalgia......

Trant

You mean they went the first way don't you?

Anyway, if they had just let things go on as they were then their servers would have ground to a halt under the strain as more people joined. All successful websites have to go through these painful upgrades.

maybe chess.com should shut down tommorrow and tonight for the chess.com staff sleep chess.com staff i would suggest getting a lot of sleep tonight because last night you guys were probally awake all night and all yesturday you guys were working nonstop

If that's what it takes, I say go for it.

This is a great site, If I have to do without for a day or two to make it even better the worst that will happen to me is withdrawal symptoms.

I'm not a programming expert, but if a shutdown is required, won't it be possible to leave the forums open?
