When should I get draw?

Hi. This is still not clear. Could someone please explain to me in which situations should I get draw? Im talking about online chess. Should I get it when just two kings left in the game? Should I get it when two kings and one bishop left (two bishops left/one knight and two kings...)?? What are the draw-rules in these situations? Thanks very much.

here is a basic explanation:

K+R vs. K = win.

K+B+B vs. K = win.

K+N+N vs. K = draw.

K+B+N vs. K = win.

K+B = draw.

K+N = draw.

K+N vs. K+R = almost always a draw.

K+B vs. K+R = almost always a draw.

hope that helped!

K+B+N v K is a win, of course.

K+N+N v K isn't a forced win, but it's not an automatic by the rules draw either, since there is a sequence of legal moves to checkmate (that the K side would be very stupid to allow). But opponents will always just agree on a draw, or else you need to play some moves.

K+N v K+R and K+B v K+R may be theoretical draws, but if you don't know why exactly and the opponent (with the R) does, you may well find you have a very hard time.

And what are you talking about exactly when you say "when should I get a draw"? When your time runs out, or what?

Wow, thanks very much for that, Scarblac! Well the reason Im asking this is that I also play on online chess portal in the Czech repulic and Im not sure if it works correctly. So Im asking, which situations must be evaluated as an automatic draw when playing online chess..

Scarblac

K v K, K+B v K, K+N v K, K+B v K+B if the bishops are the same color, and various hard to detect situations where no side can make progress (think of a locked pawn chain over the whole board) that are usually ignored by software.

I think the only criterium would be insufficient material. That is, there is no way you can construct a mate with the material on the board, even with worst play. That would exclude many of the Book draws. Other draws the opponent has to claim.
