Why are the leagues when i try to win very hard but when i win very easy?

This makes no sense. The past two weeks i have not been active with 42 trophies and i am 21st but when i am active with 425 trophies i am 20th as well. Why is this? Has it happened to anyone else or some magic is in the air…
