Why do people do this?

I've noticed that alot people in 30 min games stop making moves and just let the clock run down rather than aborting or resigning a game.....it's really annoying!  why do people do it?

Because they want to be annoying. They hate to take the loss like a man, so they slink away like cowards.

Do they lose less points on a time out or something like that?

No. They get a warning not to abandon their games.

I don't think so. I think a loss is a loss as far as the points are concerned. Feel free to correct me, somebody, if I am wrong.
