Why do people resign in a completely winning position?

This one really puzzles me, and I wonder if anyone can solve this mystery for me.
I've seen it happen before when I was watching other players playing, but now it happened to me.

Take a look at this game:

I got totally owned and kept on playing just for the faintest chance he'll make some huge blunder and I can draw, but then - all of a sudden - he resigns!

The only "logical" explanations I can think of are:
1. He needs to go. But why not try to offer a draw or something? I surely would have accepted that.
2. He thinks he's losing for some reason. It doesn't add up, as a player that plays that well - surely knows how a totally won position looks like :)

What do you think?

I always resign if I must suddenly leave.

OriSagiv

Why not try to offer a draw first?

Pulpofeira

Last time my wife rang me. Logically I did fall into surrender mode.

Ok, mystery solved, thanks :)

Now seriously, this is something about you never can be sure, since there are people for everything. I guess some of them probably would explain if you ask. I think I should offer a draw if I must leave and I'm clearly winning, but if I'm not wrong this had happened only once and I didn't think about it. It's online chess after all.

Once in a game I made a serious blunder.  There was no chance my opponent wouldn't see it, so I posted to my opponent "oh, that was stupid!--and I think I was better before..."  And he resigned!  I asked him why, and he said he didn't want to win like that.  I told him that was taking it a bit far, after all I am the one who made the stupid blunder, but he said don't worry about it, it's just a game anyway.  So then, in a way, I felt like a pouty baby--worse than if he just beat me.

I am not trying to speak for this person who resigned in an obvious winning position but I do know from my brief experience playing at this site all types of UN- explainable things do happen. I was playing a game and I was in an obvious winning position and the server aborted my game and deducted points for my " loss" .I am still trying to find out why? So just as in life unfair things happen to any and all of us at some point in time.

I've pressed the resign button by accident when I wanted to offer a draw...

Oh wow once I played a bullet player, and I missclicked, it would’ve been mate, but I missed, he was nice enough to resign.

Maybe he had to go poopy.  It is not worth soiling your britches just to beat someone on chess.com.  Maybe a woman came over and put her tongue in his ear, and he lost the ability to move his pieces.

I never resign even though I'm going to lose, but one time I really had to go, so I had to resign. My guess is that they had a strategy, but it didn't work. I've seen people resigning even though they weren't losing as well, but since I played 3 minute the moves had to be fairly quick and sometimes I make my moves really fast, maybe they wanted to make moves quick as well, but blundered too much.

I have known people that resign in winning positions because they needed to physically relieve themselves.
