When my mom died this past April, I was hammered with "Did she have covid?" I kept saying no she didnt, but the powers that be would not let it go. I finally had to tell them that if i see covid on the death certificate then prepare for a lawsuit. They let it go, but this is one example out of how many?
Is it safe to go out to play chess tournaments?

@IMKeto, my condolences on your loss. I can only imagine the agony of having to deal with such malpractice and insensitivity in the midst of grieving for your mom.

Thank You I-T. My mom and I were never close up until a few years ago. We were able to forgive and have an incredible 3 years. So being able to let of the "I didn't do anything. It was all her fault."

It’s good that you had the opportunity to connect with your mom and find some healing. Good for both of you.

covid is a hoax.
Stop vacuuming
Some people just be misbehavin'...

I’m just a regular schmoe, but I’ve been kinda sorta wondering if covid mortality rates have been maybe slightly exaggerated just a tad as a possible political weapon, by government agencies, teachers’ unions, and legacy media. Just a wild thought …
If you're my age with co-morbidities you should be somewhat concerned over the mortality rates, particularly as Delta is still out there, although not as prevalent. The bigger problem now seems to be hospitalization rates which are really scary. Also the economic impact on the national and world community is something to think about. And then there's the real possibility of further mutations, or the appearance of other viruses - a feature of our time. If anything, I think most agencies and media are being measured in their in their assessment. Time will tell though.

I remember "someone" writing in the other thread about how this would unfold. Mutations would happen, eventually resulting in mild variants that everyone would get, regardless of vaccination status. The hysteria would continue though, because of the need for poor decision making and power hungry politicians. Also it was mentioned the economic impact and other unintended consequences like crime, mental health, and social problems would drastically rise.
And now here we are, and now that has happened, and those same poor decision makers say "what, who could have predicted that"?
Over the past 2 years there have been a lot of gems when it comes to the covid. Two of my favorites haven't changed though. The first one is you have to get a vaccine, but if you get a vaccine you can still get covid and die. The second one is masks. You have to wear a mask, but wearing a mask doesn't make much difference.
So after two years we are right where we started. If you are old or have some ailment that makes you fragile, then you should probably consider a vaccine and stay away from people. But shutting down society over something that you are going to eventually get no matter what is just as idiotic now as it was then.

is a when factor i reckon/how much can be prevented and avoided by doing certain things and not doing others when. if we'd fully shut down at the beginning and were more socialistic as a country i think we'd be doing better but we didn't/aren't :/ the hospital reports likely aren't 100 percent accurate but when you factor in what other countries have as well as what is that, is going i reckon/a problem that's especially bigger at the moment coming out of the holidays this year. want to do otb but probably going to wait til march or april i'm thinking now instead of december/january like i was thinking a bit ago before stuff surged more again.
Your probability of catching Covid is extremely small. if you catch it, the probably of death is extremely small. Don't be dumb about it and start licking door knobs, but please don't live in utter and complete fear.
I think we will all find that this "problem" goes away after the election.
1% of the US population has tested positive for COVID so far, so the chances of catching it aren't "extremely small" - it's in fact becoming more likely all the time. Unfortunately some people have put the public health measures aimed at limiting the speed of its spread into the "utter and complete fear" basket and are making it worse.
The probability of death will also go up sharply if hospitals become overloaded with cases. And while most people will be fine, that's still a lot of death, especially for the more vulnerable.
The problem itself is not going to just magically go away after the US election, no matter how much some people wish it would. However, the US might actually get the leadership it needs to better handle the problem, although it'll be far too late by that point anyway. 133,000 COVID related deaths and still climbing.
I guess that fell really flat, with more deaths faster under ‘new leadership’, even with the vaccines the ‘old leadership’ left us with at the time of the turnover. 800,000 and climbing now, though if you think about it, it could hardly be declining at any point.

That's what happens when you go from operation warp speed to operation snail speed.
Some people have a natural gift for taking on challenges. Other people have a natural gift for falling asleep at important meetings. The Sleepy One has a lot of explaining to do. After his nap of course.
No, I got punched last time I went to one, but in fairness I did spear tackle him before our game to try to scare him off.

Here's a headline for ya: Omicron 'will find just about everybody'
I go by the assumption it already has. The vast majority of people I know who have it say it's very similar to a common cold. For me it was like a weird cold. It doesn't slow you down very much or prevent any normal activity, but you just dont feel 100%.
Some people just dont get colds, or if they do, very rarely. But it seems pretty safe to say it will find just about everybody.
This subterfuge has damaged a lot of innocent people. 1984 arrived 37 years late.
