This one was from my game ^_^. "A Casual Discovery"

i don't understood

ShadowIKnight

Blacks forced to take his queen and a pawn off for a knight and a rook. It is by no means won straight away, but it is winning... but I hate playing both sides of positions like those because I cant find the win as white, and I get smashed as black =P

ShadowIKnight

Alright time for another one I make myself, took me about 4 mins :D And its suprisingly not an end game one! (those take much less time, plug into engine and go)

Well its not really a combination (as a hint), as those are good puzzles, but its more of a positional or plan one. Find the "best" move:

Just a ton of puzzles put together, enjoy w/e.

What if black takes the rook? And what is the result?

ShadowIKnight

Well on the first move, if black takes the rook, the bishop checks and forks the pawn, so its draw (which is what white is aiming for).

On the last move, if King takes rook, its stalemate.

I got like 3/5 on this in TT (yeah this ones from TT too =O) off instinct, didn't "see" it all at all lol). hmm :P quite hard, dont expect to solve the puzzle instantly.

Your explanation shows stalemate defence!

ShadowIKnight

Yes it does. Does that answer your question...?

zschess

Oops,I actually want to type 'yes',but there could be something wrong.SorryEmbarassed

ShadowIKnight

Your question was what if black takes the rook, and what is the result. That effectively is one question.

Ok, so, if black takes the rook its stalemate on the last move, or if black takes the rook on the first move, its drawn as the bishop checks and forks king and pawn, making it a draw as there is no way to checkmate for both sides (forcefully with good/best play ofc).

So if that doesn't answer your question, explain further?

if black takes the rook, white can draw with Be4+ and its drawn.

Another endgame one:

One from my game just played:

Note Nxe5 takes off my attack and leaves black with an advantage

ShadowIKnight

Found this while exploring the French:

Also if not b5, then white with Rc1! wins.
Sorry I didnt make it into puzzle format; internet exlporer 9 has some trouble inserting the puzzles :( and now theres no more smooth animation on diagrams! its horrible =(

#19 is broken, would like to see the outgoing, in my opinion it has to be Lxc6

ShadowIKnight

Number 19 before I said I had took the moves out so you could try it for yourself, but I deleted that because I thought it was pointless, but oops I guess not sorry. So its not "broken", but on its own for you to try.

And Bxc6 is the correct answer, well done!

ShadowIKnight

Ah it works now, compatibility view =)

ShadowIKnight

Analyze, does Black have anything decent here, and what do you think is his best move? (from my bullet game)

Black has so many possibilities but first move is clearly Bd3+
