This actually came up in one of my games, with a slight alteration, because as it was, the black king had a chance to escape, but didn't see it.

This is my first puzzle, and I'm not the most experienced player, so if you find any inacuracies with it, let me know!

is it Qg5 for black very next move? then black can castle, and just down a piece, still have a chance of drawing

Is that what you were thinking of? Then Black's up a pawn but down a bishop.
