How many points can you gain from solving one puzzle?

Where do they explain exactly how the new system works? I don't hate the new system but I would like to understand exactly how it works. I see some people can gain as much as 35 points from solving one puzzle and lose as little as 1 point when they are wrong. I always gain 2,3 or 4 points for a correct solution and lose 12 or 13 points when I am wrong.

Hmm. I haven't seen anyone gaining 35 points from a puzzle since they changed the system.

There were a lot of threads about the change. I know that I saw various explanations.

It all has to do with the difference between your puzzle rating and the puzzle's own rating.

  • If the puzzle's rating exceeds your rating by a lot, you can gain more points.
  • If your rating exceeds the puzzle's rating, you won't get many points for solving it and will lose a lot of points if you fail.

It looks like all the puzzles you have been doing recently have been rated 200 or more points below your puzzle rating. You have been getting 3 or 4 for a correct answer and losing 12 or so for an incorrect answer.

If you want to earn more points, you have to change the puzzle difficulty level.

For examples you can look for people in the leaderboard who have made amazing gains in very few puzzles.

You might be right about the puzzle rating differentials. I just thought it would be documented somewhere?
