Nice!
Mate in 5 with Some Tricks Included!
Thanks a lot! :)
I feel like I may have missed a couple of decent lines at moves 1 and 2 - if anybody's interesting at looking at those. I've looked at plenty enough for tonight! :P
Ah, touche. All of those lines and I didn't see the obvious! I'll make note of it in the OP.
In a tournament, if prompted by my opponent to continue, I'd still do 4. Rh8 just for funsies. ;)
1. Pc6 Bxf2
2. Pxb7+ Ka7
3. Pb8=Q#
Same result for 1... Bc5
1... Pb6 leads to mate in 2 (Qf8+ followed by Qxb8#)
1. Pc6 Bd4+
2. Bxd4 Nxd4
3. Nb8+ Kxb8
4. Qf8#
Same result for 2... Pb6
1... Nxa5 leads to a mate in 2, and 1... Pxc6 leads to a mate in 1
1. Pc6 Nc5
2. Bxc5 Bxc5
3. Pxb7+ Ka7
4. Qxc5#
1. Pc6 Nc5
2. Bxc5 Bb6
3. Pxb7+ Ka7
4. Pb8=Q#
There are other variations as well. I'll add 1. c6 to the board (a little bit later, however)! Thanks for that excellent and effective variation, Ferlathin! :)
I know there are several variations possible here, so here's the solution with several reasonable variations (please inform me if I miss any):
