Actually, it is mate in 7.
Not Qd7. Qg5 makes it longer, letting you sac the queen for the knight. I believe this makes it longer than eight moves.
Qg5 just makes it shorter.
4... Qg5 5. Nf3+ Ke4 6. Bd5#
