White to play and win.

Also for what it's worth, white's second move has 2 correct answeres, but the puzzle will only accept 1. So sorry for that. If you find one, you should find the other, they are similar.

Good problem illustrating the classic power of the bishop over the knight with as the knight gets corralled!

I am not convinced. Black can try 2...Ke7 followed by 3...Kf8 and if White can still win, it is at least not obvious.

I dont see a way for white to win too

Nadeldrucker

I had a second look at that. In the initial position White is winning, but we have to reverse the move order: first 1.Lh3! and after 1...Se8 2.Ld7 (attacking the knight) Sg7 3.Kh6 and we reach the desired zugzwang.Or 1...Sh5 2.Kh6 Sg7 3.Ld7 with the same result.

zschess

Its the power of zugzwang!

I'm getting lost with your notation.... S = N? L = B?

That's right. Sorry, my native German broke through.

zschess

But doesn't L=Q?

Nadeldrucker

No,

Bishop -> Läufer (translate "Runner")

Knight -> Springer ("Jumper")

Rook -> Turm ("Tower")

Queen -> Dame ("Lady")

King -> König
