You would get a nice bonus to help you earn more points for the next tier... these little buffs were a nice reward for the work in completing the tier. Since the update, all of my bonuses are gone. No more +5% on normal puzzles, or extra points for streaks etc. At the higher levels this makes it so much harder to progress without

After completing the first tier, I found that I really miss seeing the rating (the one which goes down when you screw up), so I turned it off.
the tiers feel quite meaningless, they measure how much I play, not if I got better.

If you are on the puzzle point feature you click the settings icon at the top
Then toggle off the option Collect Puzzle Points
And save
If you're just getting the coach then an option to disable that should be available soon
I am trying to change it back...but there is no SAVE button?

It's on Android and some iOS app users have it with more being added so it should be out to all iOS app users soon (if their app is recent).
The web version is still being worked on.

I just noticed something quite important for those homesick for the old puzzle scheme.
It is still there in the background. Just go to the part where you saw your old ranking. Tap on it.
You can see the puzzle info like the difficulty rating. And your points on the old system are still working.
You can see the analysis of it as well and what points you got for success or failure.
In other words it is all still there like before but in the background now.
So now you have 2 ways to see your progress on the puzzles

iOS may not have a save and just backing out will keep the setting.

I sometimes feel a bit guilty when I lose and still keep my score, but this new journey feature is much more addictive. I hope this model will allow us to play more and learn better.
The avatar is awful - personally I play the puzzles for a nice peaceful set peace of chess when I don't have time/capacity for a full game, I really don't want it to be game-ified any more than it already is.
Just show me a chess board and tell me if I'm right/wrong, that's all that's needed. Unfortunately chess.com (along with every single other aspect of our lives online nowadays) need everything to be as intrusive and addictive as possible to try to annoy people into spending money.

I got to about lv 8 with the new puzzles, was hoping to continue my progress then ultimately return to classic mode. But the new mode just disappeared from my app! Under Settings--Puzzles, there's a toggle to turn classic mode on or off but it doesn't change anything. There's no "Collect Puzzle Points." Has anyone else experienced this?

Try logging out of the app and back in.

I like it. I find it kind of addictive and feel more motivated to get the puzzle correct. On the old puzzles I would just bang on it while doing other things and my rating would just cycle up and down

I have been grinding the puzzle points system for a few months now. I also did enjoy being able to watch my rating go up and down as I peaked and troughed (it was a good indicator that my brain was fatiguing).
