Self-solving puzzles

Edit: If you mean the 8 move puzzle, it was either Qxc7+ or Qc7+ (both are possible).
Yes, that´s the puzzle I mean. Ok, possible, but in that case he was an idiot not to see ...Qc8#, and got his just desserts!

Good job guys, and good job BigDogg for finding out about the trick (discovered pin creates zugzwang).
There is one challenge left, if the interest in the thread dies I'll post the solution and finish with it.

shoopi, in your last solution the white king can take the rook 1. Kxb2 instead of 1. Bxd5+. You have to protect the rook somehow on b2. Otherwise the alternating discovered check is very spectacular.

I very much understand the attraction, but personally prefer the positions that are "reasonably probable" in a real game - for example the first position in the OP's first post. Have fun folks!
me too. totally. When I saw the first one I thought "oh no, this thread is going to become my favorite" and then I saw all those queens and rooks...but its still a lovely and fun concept!

Lots of posts which is great - I like the topic but have not yet gotten around to a puzzle of my own design.
Did anyone explicitly mention that the draw by repetition rule needs to be in effect? This avoids trivial solutions - without it in the following example white could shuffle the rook back and forth indefinitely:
You fall in the same trap as I did at first. Moves have to be forced for both sides, that's what makes the challenge interesting. In your example, White has plenty of valid moves.
