Shortest-proof-game challenge

black is much less optimal than white so lets focus

king- needs 1 move but then rook needs 4, and if it takes 2 via 0-0-0 then it is 3 total not 5

queen- maybe 3 but if you go qd8-g8-g6-h5 then black king wastes moves and loses castling rights and that is stupidly slow so 4

rook- maybe 1 but then king needs to go e8-d8-c8-b7-c8-d8 which is way too slow

bishop- the lsb is get captured and 2 is optimal

dsb needs 4(again assuming c-f pawns havent moved, true)

knight- need 4 cumulatively in you're proof and if they swap it is a bit longer

pawn- need 5 cumulatively

3+4+2+4+4+5= 22, the only wasted move is b7-b6-b5 to do ba6+ and not be blocked

and that is unavoidable as not enough pieces available for promotion and otherwise a6-b7-a8 is just locked(saying that first b pawn move is b5) and also if the bishop tries to go there before nc6 then it just gets in the way of 0-0-0

basically the bishop cant get there before nc6 as that annoys 0-0-0

and it cant get there after as that wastes a move

(remember in this case b5 was played immediately so no bf1-a6 stuff)

i think this makes sense

Ilampozhil25

saying it cant get more optimal imo

That seems right to me, but we'll have to wait and see if EvinSung posts a shorter game.

We're also still waiting for EvinSung to tell us if he's still working on shortening #1852 and #1866.

Ilampozhil25

you have got to be kidding me

you just.... bring a rook over to block the blocking of 0-0-0 and it means no wasted moves

this is more ridiculous than the undecitangulation

It's pretty tricky to use White's tempo moves to have the h1 rook block at b7 to let Black castle. I'd be interested in knowing who composed this SPG position.

I don't think anyone can improve on EvinSung's game at #1869 (57 moves).

you forgot to insert the word"else" in the text in gray

Yes, I did forget that.

And you forgot to say whether you are still working on shortening #1852 and #1866.

EvinSung

not really

I posted #1831 five days ago. EvinSung composed a 26-move proof game (#1852), and no one else has tried it. I will give the SPG now for those who have been waiting to see how it's done.

Here's a perhaps simple one:

Here's a fairly obvious way to get this one. There may be a shorter one.

Ok, I guess I didn't look hard enough, because that's 6 moves faster than what I thought was.
