As far as "why" 21.g4 It removes the only defender of the e7 pawn.

Where do you see mate?
Not in this position, but in the previous where my bishop is on c8 and his rook could move to d8. Instead he moves his pawn and lets me take his rook with my bishop.
I don't have a pic but the d7 bishop is on b7, the g4 pawn in g2, the e1 rook on a1 and the now deceased rook on d7

Here is the position you described...
No, the d7 rook is white, since my bishop was able to capture it.

yeah after Bc8 the rook is pinned to the king. g4 breaks the pin, but then you can take his rook
Yep, so next the puzzle accepts Bc8 as the correct move, which i find odd, because it allows his rook to deliver mate on my unable-to-escape king (as the f7 square is under attack)
Hi, so first off i want to say how cool it is to solve all these chess puzzles on the app. However, i don't know how daily puzzles are submitted, but i sometimes come across odd ones. This one for example : 20...Bc8 should allow White to checkmate with their rook; however the puzzle sees that as the correct answer, and white instead makes this wierd 21.g4. Is there something i'm not seeing ? Has anyone had similar issues ? It's frustrating to base your move on what should be white's obvious response, only to discover that the correct answer is just an unsubtle 2-move maneuver with the bishop.
