Winning in the Opening!

Sort:
DZisBoss

Sometimes we're too focused with theory, that we can miss simple wins in the first 10 moves of a game! Many people can miss tactics that would be very obvious if you just focused a bit more. Here are some examples.

This is a perfect example of black, playing a Philidor's but not knowing correct theory.

If you're just starting, or beginning to play Chess, playing with stronger players may help you significantly. When I was 11, I was around 1400 strength, and playing with a 1700, I learned this clever trick.

But what if black doesn't push g6?

Remember to keep your eyes sharpened, even in blitz games. Many of you could use these tricks in so many situations.

Sometimes your opponent's going to make a mistake in the opening, and you're going to catch it.

Hopefully you'll be able to execute a few of these in your games!

Good luck!

DZisBoss

pvmike, nice puzzle, but what if Bf7 Kf7?

Then you can't win the queen.

And pos13tns, thanks for your comment.

With the Qh5+ one, Ke7 is a worse move than g6, and also after Bc4+ Black has d5 which makes it less winning for white. if not, and Kg6?!, then Qf5+ wins the game for white.

DzisBoss: Kxf7, Ne6, Kxe6, Qd5+, Kf5, e6+

Now black has 3 options.

1: Be5, Qf3. Wins the rook.

2.Kg4, h3, Kh4, g3. checkmate.

3.Kf6, Bd4. checkmate.
