daverose, i'm saying this from my own personal experience
(not as a member of staff)
I'm not sure how it works in America, but in the UK, we have places that work with disability awareness, that cover a wide area of help given. Perhaps if you have something like that there, you or your friend could contact them.
Also, with using a keyboard or anything hand related, have you tried arthritis sites? I ask because as an arthritis sufferer, i do experience problems using certain things, and perhaps they have something that could be adapted. Its amazing whats out there.

That is an English site, but gives you an idea of whats available.
While in the hospital last month I had a roomate who just had a stroke and pretty much lost all control of one side of his body and can have limited use of his other hand. His mind is till sharp and we played quite a few games but he often told me which of his pieces to move. I have told him about Chess.com and he wants to join but is having a hard time with the computer. My question is this. Are there
any add on controls, keyboards, out there that would make it easier for him to access the web and join the club? He has a Mac notebook & I don't know whats available for him. Maybe even a voice controlled program would work.
Any Ideas would be helpful.
Thanks
