It can be an exciting experience for your son and help fuel further enthusiasm for the game.
If he's in kindergarten, he would have an excellent chance of winning the whole thing. If he's in 1st grade, he can probably get a nice trophy if he performs to his rating.
Because there are so many low rated players entered in the nationals it's unlikely he would improve his rating significantly even if he does well. He could knock it down a bit if he does poorly. However, at this stage, I wouldn't worry about ratings. Go for the experience and the fun.
Hi, I see there's a nationals in FL in December. My son is rated about 1000 and is six years old. He plays local tournaments on a weekly basis. These are quad based (4 players per section).
Is there any advantage of going to nationals?
..I see it is expensive to travel..but will only do so if it is some how helpful for him. He's interested and wants to go to any tournamnet.
I belive nationals are by grade level and I see players from 100 to 1500 rating at his grade level in previous tournaments
thank you for any suggestions in helping with my decision,
