Help a kid stop the blunders?

This is my son's account. He's 7 (almost 8), about USCF 1300 - 1350, and seems to blunder out of the blue in OTB tournaments -- that is, solid, careful chess, interrupted by a bizarre lapse. He's got the pre-move checklist and so forth, but I'm wonder if other parents have had any specific mnemonic that has worked helping their kids stay disciplined and focused each move? Or is time and maturation really the only thing that can help? [ are scoresheets with reminders disallowed?? happy.png ]

Hey @ndb2010,

I would say that he will improve naturally as he gets older and becomes more mature. However, playing lots of games can also help with this.

As a bonus, here's a link to my chess blog: http://chesswinning.com/ Hopefully you'll find something useful there!

Best of luck,
