 Learn by playing.

Any standard openings you know, will be of no value but basic opening principles still apply.

Also known as Fischer chess, the pieces are randomly positioned (mirror image for your opponent) in 1 of 960 ways (heh!  I suppose one of those ways might be the conventional chess layout).

You can still castle, but sometimes that's tricky (you need to do trial & error, which is where it's useful to enable your 'cancel' capability).

ps.  What's the prize for the winner?  Does the site assign player colours between opponents?  You're limited to only 12 in an event, and that's based on your membership and not your experience or success in running tournaments?  Curious.

it was invented by fischer so that chess could be played w/o extensive opening memorization. it's a lot of fun. try it. on the other hand it tends to emphasize tactics over strategy.

The tourney is 93% complete and it's close between chem1st and G_78. http://www.chess.com/tournament/chess-960-tournament5 (I am on mobile so the link won't work, so just copy and paste)
