If you click the cross, you withdraw from the tournament.
It only appears next to your name, because you can't withdraw OTHER people! That would be mean!

Recently I put my name down for inclusion in a tournament. My name was accepted and duly appeared in the list of contestants...but with a red cross next to it! I began to worry. Was I being flagged for some reason? Banned? Marked out for special treatment? Or perhaps there is a quite mundane reason. Can anyone tell em before I become paranoid, please?
