Free Member Limitations?

Hi Everyone, sorry if this is answered somewhere but I can't find it.  

Sometimes when I try to join a tournament it tells me "sorry you're already signed up for 1 tournament, become a [paying] member to join another..."

Other times it lets me join no problem (and yes, I'm talking about non chess.com tournaments only here).  

Obviously the limit is not 1 at a time (because I'm in 3 right now and signed up for a 4th).  Is the limit 1 new tournament per month?

Free members are allowed 10 turn based tournaments at a time. When you were denied entry did you have 10 tournaments going that you remember?

Thanks for your reply.  No, I've never had 10 at a time.  I've only been allowed to join Official Chess.com tournaments and 1 other tournament at a time.  

I am currently in 7 turn based tournaments, 3 of which are chess.com tournaments, and 4 hosted by players.  I joined one in December, one in January, one in February, and one in March.  Right now it's telling me I can't join another one.

Based on my own experience it seems like I'm limited to one new tourny per month, but that's only a guess...but you're listed as staff so I'd assume what you said (10 at a time) should be the case?

Huh? This page http://www.chess.com/membership?c=corner states gold members are allowed 10 turn based tournaments at a time. I'm a freeloader and I'm allowed one at a time.

Ah, sorry about that. I was wrong. Here's the official break down:

Thanks for that breakdown...but I still don't understand.  I'm in four member-created tournaments right now and I'm a free member.  If it is 1 new tournament per month that would make sense, I'm just surprised I can't find that in writing anywhere.

I think you'll find you can join another tourney if you've completed a round/stage of another and are waiting for the next round/stage to begin.

That was a thought I had as well, but I'm still in round 1 of all of mine.
