Another site unfairly accused my son of cheating-how do I solve it?

Dear Chess lovers,

Today my 10 year old son was playing a chess tournament online conducted on another site. He was in #1 position.  I taught him chess and we both love the game and all he had was the game open. Suddenly he was kicked out and we were notified that the software flagged him for cheating. How do we challenge this ruling? He has a teacher as well who tutors him well and he has a US Chess Federation number and usually wins local tournaments as well. He is not a novice player. With COVID-19 happening and kids dealing with under lock down, this seemed to be a very cruel thing to do. Any input will help since I have no idea how to challenge this unfair ruling? Thanks so much.

Wrong site to be asking this question . . .

Don't know why this is wrong site since chess.com is also an online forum for chess. Anyway, hopefully some kind chess lover will respond.

Think of advertising Pepsi on a Coke site, or vice versa. Competitors generally don't like discussions of the competition on their sites. Chess.com often locks these types of posts.

As the problem occurred on the other site, that seems to be where the issue should be raised. Good luck either way.

What do you do? E-mail the support people on that site.

All chess playing sites handle unfair play, although they may do it in a different way, and I guess each site claims they do it better than the others, but in the end the cheats will run from one site to another when caught and spoil the game for everyone.

So whilst the admins here will not ban someone who was caught cheating on a diffrerent site, it is certainly not advised that he joins this site to cheat instead.

Perhaps play the game without assistance? Yes I know with COVID there is no OTB chess to play...

You can play on this site. However To actually get better you will need to get a prenium membership.

Chess.com policy is that we don't advertise our competitors or make comparisons with them: we can certainly talk about features that may exist elsewhere and discuss what's good about it, but we don't need to say where they come from.

Here on Chess.com, an account closed for Fair play violations can appeal, but given that Chess.com sets a very, very high bar of certainty before they act, very few appeals are successful unless there's been some sort of process related error. An appeal is lodged contacting the Support team through the normal channels.

We have no idea what the process is like on other sites, so I am therefore locking this thread.

Thanks,

David, moderator
