Anything that gives tangible rewards just encourages cheating.  Look at the farce of the premium arena that was run a month ago and resulted in a majority of the top 20 getting their accounts closed!

It was the first one - hopefully the next one is close enough that people will remember how good Chess.com's Fair Play team and not do that sort of thing. Probably wouldn't hurt for Chess.com to make sure Fair Play is included in the announcements as an additional reminder.

I didn't find propositions, how much was 1st place etc? Entry fee for non-title players only?

There was $2,250 worth of prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place across multiple rating brackets (double that if you streamed it):

There wasn't any specific entry fee for this event, but you did have to be a Premium member and if you did win a prize, you needed to have your real name on your profile and identify yourself to Chess.com

No entry fee but they already paid with membership, 5$, right? Imagine, 5$ on membership, over 700 players, well of course they can make it profitable. I've been thinking to make similar to be sponsor but I have to have guaranteed money prize pool about 1000$. Only dilemma is if to ask all to pay fee 5$ or only non-title players.

I don't think individuals can offer prize tournaments.

They should probably give premium trial to winners

Everyone, if you want to join an online 600$ chess tournament that will be hosted by Learn2Chess on 6/28/2020 you can register here http://nwchess.com/OnlineRegistration/roster.php?tournamentid=558. There is an entry fee and a huge prize pool. The flyer is also here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1RU9n3dssfHFdGb-9hjDkuzd2SjZqUQ8z-NEtmFSQ68I/edit?usp=sharing

Where that tournament should be hosted? Here? Because without cheat detection there is no purpose to play. And how much is entry fee?

It will be hosted here and the tournament will be with cheat detection and will be hosted with a chess.com club. There is also a Fair Play Policy that everyone must agree to. The entry fee is 20$ for U1700 section and 25$ for 1700+ section.

We will be watching all the games and monitoring everyone. Since everyone must be in the Zoom Meeting, they must have their video on and if a game looks suspicious, people will share their screens. In addition, Chess.com will be helping us with cheat detection.

I think it is a reasonable price, because 80% of the proceeds will be donated to COVID-19. There is no limit on 100 players we can definitely expand that once we get enough members. Grandmasters do not have to pay an entry fee.

So who at Chess.com are you speaking to?  Is it someone within the cheat team?

The moderators and managers will be helping out and there is even a cheating system that is in the tournament. All games will be monitored and we can see everyone's tabs open and inspect closely.

Do you mean that chess.com employees will be helping to run the tournament?

I am very surprised.  I would like to see chess.com post something announcing their endorsement the tournament.

Yes

No, chess.com would only give out prizes for online tournaments if there was an entry fee. I don't think a site would give away money for free. They would want to make some profit.

No sorry i got confused with what you were asking, chess.com employees will not be helping with cheating but we have an experienced chess tournament organizer who will be helping and is getting profit. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Chess.com have just recently announced they are doing tournaments with the USCF, including prize tournaments for recognized USCF affiliates.   Will this tournament be held by a USCF affiliate?

https://www.chess.com/article/view/us-chess-online

It says that you need to get approval to run cash prize events and that once you have it, you will receive some sort of official recognition for your club.  Have you got that?

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my organization run events with cash prizes on Chess.com?

Yes. Upon filling out the form linked above, Chess.com will verify active US Chess affiliates to run cash events independently of our official tournaments. Once verified, a Chess.com representative will publicly denote your club as a clearance to run cash prize events.

@mb906soccer2006 Please note that you still have some paperwork to complete before this event can be hosted on Chess.com - it would be best if you didn't advertise it as such without first doing that.

You didn't answer the question.  Who are you talking to and is this person a member of the cheat team.
