Should Chess.com give out prizes for winning online tournaments?

Cubits and Crowns are chescube currencies you can use to buy stuff on the site like educational videos and such. You can even turn them in for real cash if you have enough.

It's the being able to turn them into cash which was chesscube's downfall. Cheating rose and it became a gambling site.

You don't pay to enter the tournaments so the prize fund is 0. If you had to pay to enter then I guess there would be prizes.

And really do you deserve anything for winning a 1-minuter <1200 tournament with only 4 people competing (for example). Titled Tuesdays are way more high quality and attract people to play and to watch.
They simply couldn't give out prizes for every tournament. 12 start every hour!

Well chesscube does and there are way more than 12 per hour for the record. I'm not saying I want this site to turn into chesscube by the way, this is a much nicer site than chesscube, but I'm just sayin'.

chesscube charges for tournaments too (well, in cubits). Live tournaments here are still a bit experimental though - they haven't really changed much since they were added and are certainly in need of change which may be coming with or after the v3 changes.

Well chesscube doesn't charge for ALL tournaments, there are some free ones, and although those tournaments usually have rather small prizes, but the principle still holds up.

Anything that gives tangible rewards just encourages cheating. Look at the farce of the premium arena that was run a month ago and resulted in a majority of the top 20 getting their accounts closed!

Can you give a link for that tourney? PREMIUM arena bullet, blitz or rapid?
blitz
I know they give out tournament trophies (of which I have 11), but that's not a real prize, because you get nothing out of it. I believe they should give you something for placing in the top 3 of any tournament. For instance, how chesscube awards you cubits or even crowns if you place in the top 3. Thoughts?
