Hi greenteakitten,
You bring up a good point! The reason tournament games are auto-aborted after the timer runs out is to ensure fairness and consistency. If games were allowed to continue after the tournament ends, it could create delays in finalizing standings or confuse, especially in large tournaments.
That said, the current system does unintentionally encourage stalling in certain scenarios, which is frustrating. A potential solution could be letting games finish for rating purposes but excluding them from affecting the tournament standings.
It's worth sharing this feedback with Chess.com staff—they’re always looking to improve the tournament experience!
I only recently started playing tournaments and noticed that if you play a game too close to the end of the tournament time, your opponent can just stall until the time runs out and the game auto-aborts.
This is a bit annoying when there's a mate in one.
I was wondering: what's the reasoning behind this rule? Doesn't it encourage stalling? Why not just let the games play out after the tournament ends, so that they impact rating but not the tournament place?
That way, my opponent gets to keep their place, and I get my rating.
