I was playing in a tournament about 6 weeks ago and had a horrible performance. I plugged in my opponents ratings in the USCF ratings calculator and I was estimated to lose 14 points. I noticed for myself at my rating (around 2400 USCF) that it is usually between 0-5 points off of what they give me. After the tournament, I did not lose 14 points, I lost 28 points. I checked again with my K factor unchecked and checked, and with it unchecked I got the rating they gave me. Again, with the K factor checked, I only lost 14 points.
I honestly believed this was a mistake and still do. I told friends after and they had never heard of this type of mistake nor had I. I was informed it had to be USCF that made the mistake, if indeed there was a mistake, and not the TD that submitted it. I sent emails out trying to figure out who to contact, and I was told to contact Susan Kantor.
I emailed her several times, and she responded to some. She did not even fully read my first email, which was evident by her response (I have copies of the emails if this is needed further in discussion). And then finally weeks later she said she would send it in to someone finally to look into. Again, I believe it is a mistake, but maybe I am wrong..But atleast I want this investigated into, because 14 points is tough to come by at this level. The k factor makes it really tough to gain points, but losing points, it gives further cushion.
I emailed her around 8 days later, asking her who she sent it in to, so I could ask them about it..
She responded that she would mention if she got the chance over the weekend, contradicting what she had told me prior.
I talked to the head of the local chess club, and he suggested I go on a forum and seek help this way. I have been told by many that USCF can be very slow in responses or non responsive at all.. Is there anyone I should send this information to that can help? Can anyone on this forum help? I can provide more specific details in posts to come, but honestly I would like this to be investigated, because at this level it takes a lot of work to gain points.. I could beat an 2 experts, an 1800+ and a master, and only gain 3 points, as this is what happened in a tourney prior to the one..
Any feedback helps, appreciate it. Thank you.
I think it most likely they meant the forum on the USCF site, not this one.
