Some while ago we missed the 55th birthday of Alexander Siddig. Born in Omdurman, Sudan, he was raised in London, and educated at St Lawrence College, Ramsgate, Kent before University College, London and then attended LAMDA in Hammersmith before starting professionally as an actor with a season in Manchester. He came to notice as Prince Feisal in A Dangerous Man: Lawrence after Arabia with Ralph Fiennes, then moved on as Doctor Bashir in Star Trek: The Next Generation before moving as a regular into Deep Space Nine 1993-99. He started to make a wider mark with Spooks (MI5) 2003, Kingdom of Heaven & Syriana 2005, before a series role in Day 6 of 24 in 2007; after appearing in Waking the Dead and Strike Back, was Hermes in Clash of the Titans 2010, then in Primeval 2011, Minos in Atlantis 2013, Da Vinci’s Demons 2013-15, but then was Doran Martell in Game of Thrones 2015-6 and Ruben Oliver in Peaky Blinders 2016 & Ra’s al Ghul in Gotham 2017-8 and also in Deep State 2019. Always busy, has recently been living when off work in a farmhouse in a small village in Sussex, England.
